Looking down Dave’s Dock on a beautifully sunny morning in Port Townsend.
Meeting a friend at the Kingston ferry, we decided to head to Port Townsend for a day of just strolling along the waterfront and catching up. First up, a stop at Sunrise Coffee, located in the Port Townsend Boat Haven, for a seriously good latte, chocolate croissant and an hour and a half of chatter.
Mural of the tug Arthur Foss, built in 1889 and the oldest still floating wooden tugboat in the world. I think I’ll have to head over to the Historic Ships Wharf at Seattle’s Lake Union Park to photograph the real thing.
Deciding we need to get some circulation going, off to the waterfront, starting at the City Pier.
The 100 passenger cruise ship, American Spirit.
Looking through what remains of the Quincy Street Dock, built in the 1930s, and used by both private and public ferries for nearly 50 years. Decommisioned in 1982, the transfer span and shore decking were removed in 2013.
This photo, from the 1940s, is taken from the back of a departing ferry from the Quincy Street dock. Photo from the Washington State Digital Archives.
Looking down the low tide beaches of Jackson Tidal Park from the City Pier, with the old Quincy Street ferry dock on the left.
A one-handed snap of the Bull Durham “ghost mural” (a fading, painted sign at least 50 years old) on the Fred Lewis building, after convincing my friend to try a taste of Elevated Ice Cream‘s cardamom ice cream, and walking out with cones.
The compass rose at the Northwest Maritime Center. The words in the center read “In a spirit of adventure and discovery.”
After lunch at Doc’s Marina Grill at Point Hudson (smoked salmon mac & cheese for her and the Thai curry mussels for me), we ended up at the Point Wilson Lighthouse. As we walked around the lighthouse and up and down a stretch of beach, we saw sea otters sunning themselves. Not even 20 feet from where we stood!
After 7 hours of hanging out, 2.7 miles walked, delicious food, and no particular plans, our day in Port Townsend was lots of fun!

Hi- I was wondering if I could use your photo of festival parking on our Facebook page as we are looking for help with parking for Joyce Daze. Also, I would like to share your page as the rest of your photos of Joyce Daze are lovely.
Thanks for considering.
Hi Rae – Absolutely! And thanks for the compliment on my photography. 🙂
