The Olympic Peninsula has so much marine life – seals, sea lions, porpoises, whales, and dozens of sea birds. If you’re lucky, you’ll see them from the shore. But if you want to see them up close, book a whale and wildlife tour.
Meeting a friend at the Kingston ferry, we decided to head to Port Townsend for a day of just strolling along the waterfront and catching up. After 7 hours of hanging out, 2.7 miles walked, delicious food, and no particular plans, our day in Port Townsend was lots of fun!
It's hard to describe the Olympic Game Farm - some weirdly wonderful mix of petting zoo, menagerie, animal sanctuary, and absolutely the most fun I've had driving in years, animal smells and slobber and all. How often do you get to feed wheat bread to deer, elk, buffalo, llamas, bears, yak and musk ox through your car window?

Driving down Highway 101, just west of Blyn and the 7 Cedars Hotel & Casino, you can see the top of the roof and chimneys of a lovely old brick house. Especially before all the trees start leafing. It looks neglected at best, and I wondered, whose house? Can I find it? A little bit of sleuthing and the answer is tied to a Sequim pioneer, builder and lover of birds.
I'd lived here in Sequim for nearly a year before I had my first elk sighting. I'd read that the herd size varied from year-to-year, numbering about 90-ish. Of course, there is the Elk Crossing sign, which flashes when the radio collared elk are nearby. My husband and I joked that we figured the State Wildlife guys had collared some cows by mistake, as we'd never seen any elk. But finally, sucess!
