I’ve a fondness for all things maritime. Though the day went from rain, to clouds to sun, I spent a day running around taking photos of ships of all sizes in Port Townsend and Port Ludlow.
With the Alaska cruise season fully underway, it’s fun to hang out in Port Ludlow and watch the parade of ships. Like the Norwegian Encore in the photo above, as she heads to Juneau, AK. The colorful building on the left is the Inn at Port Ludlow.
The Discovery Princess sailing past Port Ludlow on her way to Ketchikan, AK.
One of the Puget Sound Express whale watching ships. Orca and humpbacks are swimming through in large numbers.
The Washington State Ferry, Salish, heading into Port Townsend from Coupeville. The Washington State Ferry system runs ten routes around Puget Sound and in the San Juan Islands, designated as part of the state highway system. It’s second-largest vehicular ferry system in the world.

This seagull is standing watch, and making … deposits, obviously.
