Happy Independence Day!
So it’s off on a road trip to Forks, Washington for their Old Fashioned 4th of July celebration. Camera, waterproof bag, towel and raincoat all went into the trunk, along with snacks, water and candy. Why candy? Well, the obvious answer is … CANDY! The ostensible reason was that since I was marching in the parade with the DAR ladies, I needed candy to hand out to the children.
The organized chaos of the staging area. 10 minutes before the parade, Forks is living up to its billing as the rainiest city in the contiguous United States!
And the parade begins! Love the fact that first up were all the patriotic, military, veterans and fraternal groups.
Next year, I want to be the Tourist of the Day and ride in a cool car!
The Michael Trebert DAR chapter is on the move. This’ll be my view for the next mile. 😀
The Forks High School Spartans cheerleaders marching behind us. I’m pretty sure they’ll be way more energetic than I will.
I’m the one on the left wearing a skirt … just about the only one with a skirt on, other than the Forks High School cheerleaders. Pants would have been more practical …
I managed a few one-handed snaps as we walked. So many cute kids, so much red-white-and-blue, and so many candy bandits!
One of the great parts of being nearly at the head of the parade means I can snap all the pictures I want as the other participants reach the end point!
These ladies line-danced the whole parade route!
Logging trucks bring up the end of the parade.
As I walked back along the parade route (yes, I had to walk it both ways!), this sign perfectly captured my feeling for the day. So much F-U-N!

Great article. We lived in Forks for many years, and the celebrations of the 4th were always special for my children.
Living in the South, and seeing the pictures were heart warming. Thank You for sharing.
Hi Dena – glad you stumbled upon my blog, and I’m glad it brought back fond memories of this wonderful piece of the world!
I had relatives in Forks and have fond memories of all the festivities, I always won the races and earned 3 bucks, loved the demolition derby and of course loved the parade and incredible fireworks. I wish I lived closer and could take my children and grandkids!
