Somewhere, in between running errands around Sequim, I noticed a banner strung across Washington Street at the west end of town, announcing the eighth Olympic Peninsula Air Affaire set for August 28. Well, I thought, that would be fun!

Saturday morning was sunny, clear and a perfect 70 degrees, so I kidnapped my mother and we went to the Sequim Valley Airport.

There were about 100 classic cars, dozens of airplanes, helicopters, radio-controlled planes and drones, a few vendor booths, a couple of food vendors, live music and lots of gleaming, shiny chrome.

We started with the cars, dating from 1906 to mid-70s.  Some were meticulously restored, some were a work in progress, and some even were for sale. I would have loved to have seen my husband’s face if I’d driven home in any one of them.

Mom’s first car was a 1965 green Mustang convertible, and te owners of this beautifully restored 1965 Mustang were kind enough to let Mom be my model.

1959 Corvette

I believe this is a 1958 Corvette, but I was distracted by the candy apple red paint job, white wall tires and the chrome bumpers, so my memory may be faulty.

This 1970 Chevy Nova was gorgeous. A lot nicer than the brown, beat up one I had 35 years ago. Why yes, I  might have a thing for muscle cars. Who doesn’t?

Oh, the sleek lines and fins on this one!

This early 1910s Cadillac in emerald green caught my eye.

The hood ornament of this 1929 Pierce-Arrow is as beautiful as the rest of the car.

Most of these cars were cleaner and shinier than my toaster oven!

Wait, did I mention this is an Air Affaire? That there would be airplanes? Well, here you go. Though I’m not nearly as familiar with planes as I am with cars, there were so many unique aircraft here. Every 10-15 minutes or so, a plane would take off, circle round a few times and fly back in. At times it seemed like everything was in motion!

You could actually fly in this biplane. If the line hadn’t been quite so long …

Helicopter rides too!
