Running from May 1 through October 31, the Sequim Farmers & Artisans Market is a small (roughly 40 vendors) outdoor market that is always fun to visit. Held at the Sequim City Hall Plaza, you can find farm fresh produce, artisan and handmade crafts, and a handful of prepared food vendors.

Totem pole at Sequim City Hall

Standing guard at Sequim City Hall and Civic Plaza, this 30′ tall totem pole, donated by the Jamestown S’Kallam tribe in 2015, tells the story of “Why the Sun Always Shines in Sequim” – a tale of murder and revenge, with a (mostly) happy ending.

Despite the heat (it was uncharacteristically in the low 80s here in Sequim, when we usually hit a high of 70 this time of year), the farmers market was up and running.  Mom and I made sure to arrive early.  Wonderfully vibrant, colorful produce greeted us in every direction.

Scarlet queen turnips at the Sequim Farmers Market

These aren’t beets, but scarlet queen salad turnips.  Crisp like a radish, but slightly sweet, they are wonderful in a salad with a honey ginger dressing.

Lemon cucumbers paired well with my salad turnips!

Cherries are, bar none, my favorite fruit. These were super sweet and juicy!

No farmers market in Sequim is complete without lavender. The warmth of the sun brought out an intense lavender scent was we walked by.

Things to keep in mind:

  • Open Saturdays from 9 am – 3 pm
  • Free parking across the street
  • the 100 block of West Cedar Street is closed to through traffic during the market
